Innovative/Alternative Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (I/A OWTS), Suffolk County Subwatersheds Wastewater Plan, and GEIS

On May 16, 2016, Suffolk County held a stakeholder meeting for the scope of the Subwatersheds Wastewater Plan and proposed changes to the Sanitary Code to allow installation of innovative / alternative onsite wastewater treatment systems, and is requesting additional comments by June 13, 2016. These comments will assist Board of Health review of Code changes, and Suffolk County scoping refinements to the Subwatersheds Wastewater Plan.

This is Just The First Step!

Sanitary Code changes simply provide SCDHS with the necessary authority to approve I/A OWTS, so that the process of improving and installing I/A OWTS can move forward. Stakeholders will also have a full opportunity to review I/A OWTS program elements and provide input at all critical junctures, including the upcoming standards that will specify technology approval processes and performance requirements. Additional stakeholder meetings will also occur at the midpoint of the Subwatersheds Wastewater Plan, and to review the draft plan. A separate GEIS Scoping meeting will also be held early this summer.
